![]() Restoration was completed in 2010 by Bill & Richard McKellar. Imported from the UK to Australia in 1993, the car was used as a paddock basher on the farm until restoration. Registered 6936WX, this car spent most of its life in the Yorkshire district until taken off the road in 1978. This car (1,000,086) was built in Cowley, England on the 13th December 1960, and dispatched on the 22nd December 1960 to Appleyards Limited in Leeds. The actual millionth car rolled off the production line on 22nd December 1960. The cars were distributed to all the BMC dealers in the UK, so that every showroom had a Minor Million on display for the official launch date of the 4th January 1961. The versatile Traveller body style was added to the Morris catalog in the autumn of 1953, when the wagon could be had in the larger Oxford and smaller Minor lines. The interior sported white leather seats with black piping. The history of the Morris Minor from Series MM to Morris 1000 has been well documented in many books and websites. That car, a 1955 Morris Minor Traveller that had been purchased new by Louiss family for business use, was about to receive a reprieve. Other external features were chrome wheel embellishers and special 1,000,000 badges on the bonnet and boot lid. Mechanically a standard 948 Minor 1000, this special edition of 350 cars was distinguished by vivid lilac paint work. The Morris Minor was the first British car to sell a million units and as that milestone approached, the British Motor Company (BMC) decided to create a special edition car – a common event now, but a rarity in the 1960s.
